And Counting

My journey of counting on Him to come through

My dad told me this about a decision I made this past week, “Knowing what I know now after my 50 years of life, I wish I would have made more decisions like you just did.”

That being said, I have found a decision can be the best choice, even if it is painful. You are capable of overcoming more than you think you are. It is good to feel deeply.God cares about you too much to give you the things that will damage your soul. You must be willing to not only think about life without your idols, but also to actually live without your idols. God may call you to give up that thing you never thought you could live without…and He IS enough. Give importance to the eternal things of your soul, even if neglecting the temporary comes at a price. God calls you Sought After.

I have never made such a decision in my life before, but I just committed to be a part of the Wheaton in Chicago for fall 2013. I will be living in an apartment in Uptown for the semester, taking classes, working on my Urban Public Health Internship, and being mentored. (!!!!!!)
“this benefits you, who a year ago started not only to do this work but also to desire it. So now finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have. For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.” - 2 Corinthians 8: 10-12

It seems that some Christians have this goal to live in a gated community with no sin and just hang out there until Jesus comes back, but that’s not what Jesus wants. In Matthew 25, Jesus says that when you feed a hungry person, or look our for a person who has no one to look out for them, or visit a lonely person, He takes that personally, like you were doing that to him. You have to be in the world so you can do those things.

He who grows in grace remembers that he is but dust, and he therefore does not expect his fellow Christians to be anything more. He overlooks ten thousand of their faults, because he knows his God overlooks twenty thousand in his own case. He does not expect perfection in the creature, and, therefore, he is not disappointed when he does not find it.

But so true.

ALSO, 24 hours till I am back to places and faces of home. My heart is so over-joyed.

Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.

—Luke 22
